UK athletics achievements

Anyika OnuoraLJMU Sports Scholars are making a great impact on UK athletics this season.  All 3 of our track and field athletes have hit impressive times or heights which have seen them creep up the senior national rankings.

Martyn Bernard has reached the great height of 2m 30cm this season which puts him at the highest point of the ranking. Martyn is currently ranked as our nation's number 1 high jumper - and a great hope for all our future major tournaments.

Anyika Onuora is also having an excellent outdoor season, currently ranked number 3 in the 100m Senior rankings with her fastest this season being 11.48secs at Kassel Germany earlier this month.

Kelly Massey, who has gained a place in her final year at LJMU Sports Scholarship Scheme, has progressed very quickly up the UK athletics rankings for 400m. Kelly has recently run a time of 53.1secs in Bratislava, Slovakia - which has managed to get her into the fastest 6 times of this season so far.

Sports Scholarship manager David McDermott comented, "The athletes have been working extremely hard in the off season and making use of our strength and conditioning support and its great to see all that hard work paying off.  In addition to all their training, they have also had final exams to take and dissertations to complete. Our LJMU sports scholars are excellent role models for young athletes coming through and deserve a great deal of credit."
