Award for Professor Tim Cable

Professor Tim Cable is one of just 50 higher education teachers and learning support staff from across England and Northern Ireland to have been awarded a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship worth £10,000.

Tim Cable is Director of LJMU's 5*-rated School of Sport and Exercise Science, where he is also Professor of Exercise Physiology. He is also one of the Directors of the University's Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), another beacon of excellence that has been nationally recognised.

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme recognises teachers and learning support staff in higher education for their outstanding impact on the student learning experience. Competition for the Higher Education Academy's Fellowships was fierce. Professor Cable was selected from a total of 223 nominations submitted by higher education institutions across England and Northern Ireland.

Steve Kenny, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Development, said: "We are delighted that Tim has been awarded a Fellowship. He is a brilliant teacher as well as being an internationally renowned scholar and the University is extremely proud of what he has achieved. Tim's input has been pivotal to the development of the University's strategic initiative for research-informed teaching that spans all Faculties and for which sport and exercise sciences is an exemplar academic school. Furthermore, his insistence that the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning should be a university-wide learning and teaching initiative focusing on employability, leadership and entrepreneurship, means that it has directly informed LJMU's new agenda for student employability and employer engagement in the curriculum."

Sue Thompson, LJMU's Director of Teaching and Learning Development, added: "Tim is a champion for learning and teaching, both in terms of his support for staff new to teaching and in the ways that he literally brings research and teaching together in his own practice and within his School."

Professor Cable is planning to use the £10,000 to support ongoing staff development initiatives aimed at enhancing the student experience. He will collect his award during a ceremony in London on 19 September.
