Print Room update
20 March 2008
New systems installed to improve workflow management
LJMU's Print Room is adopting a new document management system to improve the range of printing and photocopying services it offers Schools and Departments
IKON TRAC Solution is an easy to use web-based document management system that will enable staff to submit job requests electronically and monitor their status from any networked LJMU PC, even if they are working from home.
Peter Kenny explained: "Thanks to the new TRAC system and equipment we can offer staff a faster, better quality print room service. IKON also offers an excellent back-up service so if anything breaks down in the print room there should be no noticeable delay to production schedules."
Budget management will also be easier, as when you specify different features, such as the number of pages and finishes required, you will be able to see how much each costs.
Furthermore, if you need to re-run the same job, all of the details will be conveniently stored online, saving you the inconvenience of resubmitting all the details.
A new proofing facility also means that you can check a sample document before sending it to print, giving you complete confidence that what you have ordered is exactly what you need.
LJMU recognises that not all documents are available electronically and hard copy duplication will still be available through the new system.
Trials are currently ongoing to test the new IKON TRAC system and tailor it to meet LJMU's specific requirements. The system will come into full operation on 31 March 2008.
