Matthew excels due to his love of sports
Matthew Higgins, who graduated with a first class honours in BSc (Hons) Sports Science (Physiology) received the Paula Gorman Award for outstanding academic
achievement.
Matthew had previously been employed full-time as a management consultant but following the LJMU ethos of Dream, Plan, Achieve, he decided to follow his dreams and change careers to focus on his passion.
During his graduation ceremony on Friday he explained why, when he decided to return to university, he chose to study at LJMU: "It was a lot to do with the reputation of the University. I was aware of the five star standard of research and teaching, the flexible courses and the variety of different options you could choose. I'm absolutely delighted I came here, I've enjoyed it whole-heartedly. I took a career change to follow what I believed in and loved, which is sports, and without doubt, it was the right decision for me."
He attributed his success to his family's support, adding: "I'd like to dedicate my degree to my late mum and dad, my brother Simon and my sister Kathryn."
