Freedom of Information Publication Scheme
06 January 2009
The University is required to adopt a publication scheme under the Freedom of Information Act [FOIA] 2000. A publication scheme sets out the kinds of information that a public authority should make routinely available. LJMU has adopted the Information Commissioner's model publication scheme which came into effect on 1 January 2009 and replaces the previous scheme.
The new scheme requires us to provide certain information on our website. However, this does not change the primary purpose of the website which is the provision of accurate, up to date information about our courses, services, facilities, departments, policies and procedures to our key audiences. It is also a tool for internal and external communications about our activities locally, nationally and internationally and acts as the internal site or 'intranet' for LJMU staff and students.
A guidance note has been produced for staff giving an overview of the LJMU Publication Scheme, how it operates and advice on how to handle any requests received from the public about information contained in the scheme. The University is committed to the principle of promoting public access to its information and will only charge for providing paper copies of information within the Publication Scheme in certain circumstances. A separate guide on charges is also available.
Web authors and anyone identified as a key contact within a University policy or other key document could to be a point of contact for the public.
All documents and guidance notes are available on the Secretariat web pages.
If you have any questions about the Publication Scheme or the FOIA please contact Jeanette Wordsworth on ext: 3116 or email: Secretariat@ljmu.ac.uk
