In memoriam
06 January 2009
It is with deep regret that we record the death of Dr Katherine Zuzel on 27 December 2008, after a very short illness.
Kath joined the then Liverpool Polytechnic in 1991 and worked in what became the School of Biomolecular Sciences. A biochemist by training, Kath had an impressive academic record and graduated with a first class degree in Biochemistry from the University of London in 1974, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1979. Kath's most recent research interests were in the field of liver toxicology. During her time at LJMU, Kath was heavily involved in the development and delivery of biochemistry and related degrees and demonstrated excellent leadership in her role as programme leader. Always a keen and dedicated teacher, Kath was very popular with both students and her colleagues. Her enthusiasm, professionalism and dedication will be greatly missed by all her colleagues in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences.
Our thoughts and sympathies at this difficult time go out to her family and her husband, Professor David Billington.
Kath's funeral will be on Thursday 8 January with service and cremation at 12.30 p.m. at the Thornton Garden of Rest Crematorium, Lydiate Lane, Thornton, Liverpool. Dave has requested flowers only from close family. Donations can be made in Kath's memory to either Claire House or Zoe's Place.
