Join Academic Board

Call for nominations to Academic Board to be issued later this month.
The Academic Board will be looking for new members when the term of office of the current Board ends 17 April 2009. A Call for Nominations will be announced later in the month.
The Academic Board plays a pivotal role in the academic life of LJMU, dealing with a wide range of issues relating to research, scholarship, teaching and courses at the University. The Board is made up of both academic and non-academic staff and provides an opportunity to learn more about the University and for personal development.
Current Board member and School Director Tamsin Spargo originally stood for election to Academic Board when a lecturer because she wanted to understand more about how the University worked and to have a voice in its decision making. "An unexpected bonus was that the knowledge, experience and contacts I gained helped to give me the confidence to apply for my new role as a Director of School. I'm still an enthusiastic member of the Board, as I believe it's a vital forum for debate on the University's strategies and policies, and I would encourage anyone to get involved."
Completing his second term of office, Accounting Officer Nigel Green believes that being a member of the Board demonstrates not only a desire to get involved and to appreciate a wider picture but also a commitment to personal development. "You learn all the protocols of board membership which apply to any board or committee you join and are a transferable skill for your future career. It might be that the Vice-Chancellor selects you to serve on the Quality and Standards Committee. This happened to me and it gave me the opportunity to get another perspective on the strategic management of LJMU."
Each term of office is for two years and members can serve up to two consecutive terms of office.
