Health informatics event

LJMU's Centre for Health and Social Care Informatics (CHaSCI) hosted  a joint visit from ASSIST (Association for Informatics Professionals in Health) North West and BCS (British Computer Society) Merseyside branch at the end of  December 2008. The aim of the event was to showcase health informatics research taking place across the University.

The formal presentation session was led by Dr Farath Arshad (Head of CHaSCI), who outlined the role of the Centre within LJMU and its links with the wider informatics agenda in the region. This was followed by presentations by Dr Gabor Barton (School of Sport and Exercise Sciences) on Virtual Rehabilitation in Cerebral Palsy, Dr Karen Tocque (Centre for Public Health) on the Health Profiler North West project and Professor Dave Burton detailing the EPSRC Meguruth and ECSON projects which are providing real time information for radiotherapy. Professor Godfrey Mazhindu, Dean of Health and Applied Social Sciences, concluded the session by summarising the benefits delivered by CHaSCI to the University's research and development programme.

The wide range of poster displays demonstrated the diversity of informatics-related research activity taking place across LJMU, with topics ranging from Diabetes Online, Partnerships for Older People Projects (POPPs), clinical decision support on breast cancer, e-learning for the Mental Health Act, Emergency Care Practitioners and virtual worlds in Health.
