Accommodation for next year
16 January 2009
Important message for students.
It's hard to believe that 2009 is already upon us and many students will be keen to sort out their accommodation for next year. Some of you will want to stay in a Hall, but no doubt a lot of you will want to find a good private house instead. Currently there is more student accommodation of all types than there are students in Liverpool and so the advice is: don't rush in and regret.
Instead you should take your time to find somewhere you will be happy to live for the whole of the next year. If possible you should always secure your accommodation through Liverpool Student Homes (LSH). LSH is the only official student housing agency in Liverpool. It is run by LJMU and the other two universities in the city and supported by the three Student Unions.
Approved housing list
LSH publishes a list of approved private housing every year and next year's list will be released on Monday, 2 February. The list will be available on the LSH website and also available to inspect in person at the LSH office opposite the Metropolitan (Catholic) Cathedral and at the Students Union (in the Haigh Building) during the week commencing 2 February.
Contract checking
When you find a house you like, why not get the tenancy agreement checked before you sign it or pay any money? A good landlord will give you time to do this so don't feel pressured into signing quickly. Contract checking sessions will be taking place in the week commencing 2 February at the Advice Centre in the Haigh Building.
Housing talks
In order to arm yourself with the knowledge you need to find the right home, why not come along to one of the following sessions? Advisers from LSH and LSU will be on hand to answer your queries and will also explain your rights. The sessions will only last about 20 minutes but attending one could save you lots of time and money in the long run. So come along and see what's what - before signing your year away.
