New Professor appointed
16 January 2009
Faculty of Education, Community and Leisure appoint new Professor to lead research development.
Ian Stronach has been appointed LJMU's new Professor of Education in the Faculty of Education, Community and Leisure.
Prior to joining LJMU, he was Research Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University's Institute of Education, leading their research development programme. In 2001, the Institute became the only 'new' university to be awarded a '4' in the RAE. In 2008, the Institute was ranked 8th in the RAE league table for educational research (THES, 18 December 2008), ahead of Birmingham, Sheffield, Edinburgh and Warwick.
It is expected that Professor Stronach will perform a similar development function at LJMU, working closely with Professor Mark Brundrett, Head of the Faculty's Centre for Educational Research and Evaluation and Dr Marion Jones, Reader in Education.
Professor Stronach's areas of research expertise are qualitative inquiry, educational evaluation, and action research. His recent journal publications, addressing teacher education, alternative education, professionalism, and methodological and theoretical issues, have appeared in the American Educational Research Journal, Qualitative Inquiry, and the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education. His current books include: Don't touch! The educational story of a moral panic (Routledge, 2008, with H Piper), and Globalizing education, educating the local. How method made us mad (Routledge 2009).
