Engineering Professor honoured

Emil Levi, Professor of Electric Machines and Drive in LJMU's School of Engineering, has been given the prestigious honour of being made a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Professor Emil LeviThe IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. The organisation is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others. The IEEE looks to its Fellows for guidance and leadership as the world of electrical and electronic technology continues to evolve.

The grade of Fellow recognises unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. Emil's accomplishments are being honoured for contributing importantly to the advancement of engineering, science and technology, and bringing the realisation of significant value to society.

Professor Levi has published more than 250 papers, including over 70 in leading international journals and over 30 papers in IEEE Transactions. He was nominated for an IEEE Fellowship in the 'Research Engineer/Scientist' category. The citation that brought about his elevation to Fellow grade was for contribution to vector control of induction motor drives.

Emil commented: "Being made a Fellow is a great honour, which recognises the importance of the contributions to research made over a period of 25 years."
