Primary French QTS students spend a month teaching French school children.

LJMU students studying on the Primary French QTS courseLJMU students studying on the Primary French QTS course arrived back in the UK this weekend after spending a month teaching in Nice on the French Riviera.

The Primary French route is now in its 6th year and has over the years provided dozens of teachers training to teach in a primary school the unique opportunity to develop both their pedagogical and their linguistic skills. Not only do the students have the chance to teach a wide range of subjects in France, they also had many opportunities to integrate themselves into the French culture, with a number of excursions to places such as Cannes and Monaco - plus a weekend of skiing.

The students made a good impression on their French schools. French teachers described them as ‘une bouffée d'air frai' due to the way they catered for children of all abilities. The whole experience was described by the students as 'amazing'. LJMU student Phil Pearson commented: “I felt part of the school community from the offset.”

Simultaneously LJMU has hosted 15 French trainee teachers in our local primary schools. Their visit began 4 weeks ago with a welcome meal where they had the opportunity to meet the teachers they were working with. Throughout the month the trainees were supported in all aspects of their school work by Level 4 LJMU students, who gave advice not only on resources and planning but also on what to see and do while in Liverpool.
