13 March 2009
The Research Institute for Sport Exercise Sciences (RISES) at LJMU yesterday signed a prestigious Memorandum of Agreement with football giants Real Madrid.
The agreement has been developed to establish cutting-edge research and innovation links between RISES and the High Performance Centre at Real Madrid. The relationship builds on the excellence in performance analysis, advances in training methodologies, development of expertise and equipment design and injury prevention in soccer that currently exists in RISES. The memorandum secures LJMU’s position in a global partnership that includes Boston University and MIT.
Professor Tim Cable, Director of Sport and Exercise Sciences commented: “This provides us with a terrific opportunity to work alongside Real Madrid, as one of the world’s leading sports franchises, and Ivy League institutions in the USA. It represents a perfect marriage of our international reputation for research excellence within the area of soccer with performance at a truly elite level.”
It is anticipated that the relationship will promote a research momentum both in applied and empirical areas, with synergistic research projects taking place within the new Tom Reilly Building and in Madrid. In addition it is envisaged that the agreement will provide inspirational learning opportunities for LJMU students.
