Online module selection launched

18 March 2009

LJMU has introduced a new interface to support students in their option module selections for the 2009/10 academic year.

Module selection screenStudents will be contacted by email with a link to the module selection interface, which will provide students with their module choices. Option module selections can then be completed with just a couple of clicks in a user-friendly interface, making it a simple, straightforward and time-saving process.

The interface has been piloted successfully and gained helpful and positive from students and staff.  Senior Lecturer Dave Melville commented: “Last year my students took part in the pilot project.  Their response was terrific with some great feedback about the ease of use of the interface.  As a programme leader I greatly value a system that gives me and my team quicker and better information about student module choices.”

The interface, which replaces current paper-based processing, draws upon OSS ‘patterns of study’ data which must be fully accurate for the 2009/10 academic year in order for the correct modules to appear in the interface.  All Academic Managers are being issued with reports of current patterns of study which should highlight any anomalies.

The process does not reduce the importance of considered academic advice and guidance to inform student module choices.

Students will be informed from 23 March with individual emails containing a link to the interface being issued from 30 March.

The selection interface will remain open until 24 April, with staged reminders issued to any students that have not submitted module selections by weeks commencing 13 April and finally 20 April.
