Team challenges

20 April 2009

If you’re looking for a team challenge, a staff away-day or simply a day of work in the sun, then LJMU Volunteering can help you.

Wirral Autistic Society

Wirral Autistic Society provides a wide range of living options, day services and community support to children and adults living with autism from all over the country.

Currently they have a horticultural unit with some animals mixed in, and in order to develop their therapies they would like to move all the stock onto one self-contained unit. To this end they have leased a field next to the horticultural unit and this has been professionally fenced off.

They are seeking help in the following areas: erection of internal paddock fences to contain the stock, laying of pathways and moving and erection of wooden buildings – including the laying of foundations.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is one of the largest, most diverse providers of social welfare in the world. Bootle Salvation Army provides free breakfast for the homeless or people with drink or drug dependencies. They also provide a space for them with facilities and toiletries to shower, as well as cooking food for the elderly.

At the end of each month they give away food packs containing 6 to 8 tins of food to their clients. They have a minimum of 50 clients to whom they give this pack to. Last year they gave out over 3000 packs. However, they rely on public donations to provide this service. It would make a great difference if a team of volunteers can supply the tins, make the hampers and deliver them.

If you are interested in either of these opportunities, or would like information about the many others we have available, then please contact LJMU Volunteering, email: volunteering@ljmu.ac.uk or tel: 3159/3465.
