Artistic interns
24 April 2009
LJMU students on the History of Art & Museum Studies programme in the School of Art and Design have been extremely successful in their work related learning activities.
Joanna Smith has just completed an assessed final 'Major Project' for which she presented a series of art history-based workshops at Fox Wood Special School in Warrington.
Joanna worked with the children exploring African masks in traditional and modern art then helping the children to create their own masks. For this project, Joanna needed several arts and crafts materials and she would like to send thanks to John Oates Garage Services & Repairs of Warrington, who kindly sponsored her for the cost of the materials. Both Joanna and the children of Fox Wood Special School are most grateful for their generous and kind help.
James Millar has been accepted on the prestigious and extremely competitive summer internship programme at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice. James begins his internship at the end of April and is delighted to be one of the few students from around the world who has been accepted to work and study in Venice at this important museum.
As part of his internship, James will have to give a presentation on the topic of his choice, and will have to research the entire museum collection and give many tours of the museum to Italian and international visitors.
Ashley Middleton has also been accepted on to the equally prestigious internship programme at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
This is also extremely competitive but Ashley was accepted because her application, and the experience that she has gained on the History of Arty & Museum Studies degree course, helped her stand out from the crowd. Her supervisor in New York commented: "I interviewed Ashley and thought she was an amazing candidate."
