Live Food Love Food campaign

12 June 2009

The School of Sport and Exercise Science at LJMU has extended its commitment to provide opportunities for the local community to engage in positive behaviour and/or lifestyle change.

The ‘Live Food Love Food’ campaign provides a unique approach to improving the nutrition and lifestyles of the local community in Liverpool. The initial phase of the campaign is the creation of a community garden within Goodison Park, the home of Everton Football Club, as part of Channel 4's Landshare scheme.

This opportunity will provide the local population with much needed access to space to grow their own produce within their local community. This will be complimented by further food preparation and dietary support and guidance.

This latest development, established through an existing collaboration between the School, Everton Football Club and the Everton Foundation, aims to promote ‘real’ positive health and behaviour change in the local community.

The campaign is coordinated by PhD student Dan Parnell and is supported by the School’s Exercise Science support officer, Colin Robertson – as well as senior academics Dr Barry Drust, Dr Dave Richardson and Professor Gareth Stratton.

Dan commented: “By working alongside the local community and providing an opportunity for all to become aware, and engage in, all aspects of nutrition. The ‘Live Food - Love Food’ campaign aims to inspire and reawaken all generations to the benefits of growing, eating and cooking in a bid to create ‘real’ health and behaviour changes.”
