getting involved - student

From the moment the alarm sounds, to the chimes of midnight, an LJMU day can be memorable, distinctive and entertaining, but never ordinary.

The amount of time you spend in lectures, seminars and tutorials varies from course to course, but an average student spends two hours a day in lectures and a further two hours in seminars and tutorials.  If you are studying on a science, engineering or technology-based course, you will also be undertaking practical laboratory and field work so your daily commitment will be more than four hours.  Typical students also spend about two hours per day reading and studying.  As deadlines and examinations approach, the amount of time spent studying increases significantly.

However, we do realise that life is not all about work.  Once you've fulfilled your commitments, you'll be free to delve into the social side of student life.  Whether you want to hit the clubs, take up a new hobby, find a part-time job or just chill out with friends, you'll find that a day at LJMU is a rewarding and exciting experience.

There are many social outlets at the university and you should explore as many of them as possible.  A good place to start is at the Liverpoool Students' Union, based at the Haigh Building in Maryland Street.  The LSU has three bars, each with a different theme, from a relaxed lounge to the exciting, energetic nightclub.  You'll also find shops, a lifestyle and fitness centre and a wide range of entertainment to suit all tastes and bugets.

Over 50 clubs and societies are available: from football and rugby to mountaineering and street dance.  For the latest news, Shout FM, LSU's very own radio station, broadcasts across the campus and via the internet.
