At the heart of WoW is student employability. This section of the WoW website provides you with the information, resources, and guidance to help you increase your chances of finding and securing a graduate job.
All undergraduate programmes at LJMU contain aspects of work-related learning, enabling you to gain the skills essential to you career. However, this isn’t always enough. Wherever possible you’re encouraged to develop your Graduate Skills and WoW Skills, through activities outside of your programme of study.
WoW supports you throughout your degree, through every stage of the process; boosting your skills and helping you to find a job.
Boost your skills
Core to WoW is the Graduate Development Centre (GDC), a state of the art careers facility, located in city centre.
The GDC runs a range of regular courses to boost your skills
- ‘Ready for Work’ sessions: Short (1-2 hour) sessions designed to prepare you for career
- WoW Workshops: Short (1-2 hour) sessions designed to boost your WoW skills.
Central to the support and delivery of WoW are the Skills Support Officers (SSOs) and Student Development Coordinators (SDCs). They are able to provide support and guidance on skill development specific to each faculty.
If you’re keen to gain new skills outside of the university, LJMU’s Volunteering Service can help you find the best opportunity for you.

WoW supports you at each stage of the job hunting process with; career case studies, sessions on job hunting techniques, one-to-one careers advice, and even our own Job Vacancy website.
Our team of Employability Advisers and Careers Advisers can offer one-to-one, confidential advice and guidance including:
- Career options with your degree
- CV and Application Form checking
- Mock Job interviews

Assessment Centres, Psychometric tests, Online Numeracy Tests and Presentations are tasks that are increasingly popular at the selection stage of graduate employment. The GDC offers short sessions to help students with these.
In addition to this guidance; the Destinations online careers resource provides a comprehensive information store to "help you manage your career from university, to work and beyond".
Further study
Postgraduate study is increasingly popular option for students, especially in light of the current recession.
The Further Study section of the WoW website provides information for those wishing to undertake further study, or seeking alternatives to employment after graduation.
As with all aspects of your career, the employability and career advisers can offer you one-to-one advice on what to do next.
