What is the WoW process?
The WoW process consists of 4 simple stages:
Stage 1 – On line virtual interview to check your current WoW® skills (which are Self Awareness, Organisational Awareness and Making Things Happen).
Stage 2 – Skills developments to plug any gaps identified (through attending workshops delivered at the Graduate Development Centre, your University programme, work experience, voluntary work, membership of University clubs and societies etc).
Stage 3 – Production of a WoW Statement (similar to one used in applications for jobs etc).
Stage 4 – Employer interview.
This diagram (available to LJMU staff & students) illustrates the process and shows the workshops which are available to help you develop WoW skills.
How long will it take?
This is very much dependent on the individual’s development needs and the process is flexible, to allow individuals to complete it in the way that suits them.
The process of checking your skills, developing them and then verifying them through a statement can be broken down into 3 self-contained levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold). This will allow you to approach the WoW process in manageable chunks and proceed just as far as is right for you.
The WoW Bronze focuses only on Self Awareness and is verified by a one page statement. It can be thought of as a “taster” of the WoW process helping you understand the requirements of WoW verification. It will help you develop your ability to evidence and promote your skills effectively, and give you formal feedback early on.
The WoW Silver looks at Self Awareness and Organisational Awareness and is verified by a two page statement, whilst the WoW Gold considers both of these plus the ability to Make Things Happen.
The WoW Gold is verified by a full WoW Statement of up to four pages. Completing this will give you a comprehensive personal statement demonstrating a wide range of skills - a perfect starting point for your graduate job applications.
The WoW Star is the final stage of the process, where an employer from your chosen sector will interview you, to verify your WoW skills. You can attend mock interviews at the GDC beforehand, to improve your interview technique and help you articulate and demonstrate your WoW® skills: Self Awareness, Organisational Awareness and the ability to Make Things Happen.
