LJMU's Intramural Sports Leagues

Our Intramural Sports Leagues, a project part of the Active LJMU Programme, has been incredibly successful. The project launched in September 2022 with a modest start of 10 5-a-side futsal teams, bringing around 50-60 students involved in a single sport. Fast forward to today, we have expanded to 16 7-a-side teams and approximately 200 participants at Wavertree Sports Park, spanning 4 pitches. But that’s not all. Netball started with similar numbers and has taken over the entire double sports hall, captivating the interest of over 200 members in just over a year.

Our Sports Assistant, Liam Barr shared his excitement, stating, “It has been great because it gives students a chance. Students who want to play sports but failed to get into the JMSU teams or just want to play recreationally. It also offers jobs for students such as being referees/umpires.”

This has all been through the work of Liam Barr, Stephen Grace (Coach Development Manager) and Gina Webb (Sport Participation Officer).

How can you join the fun?

The team is eager to take things up a notch. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking to have some fun, this is your chance to get involved. They are adding more divisions to our football leagues, increasing the number of netball teams, and bringing cricket and badminton into the mix.

Reach out to Liam Barr at l.j.barr@ljmu.ac.uk or Steve Grace at s.s.grace@ljmu.ac.uk. You can also pop by the Sport Building and chat with any member of the team.
