Construction students top prizes in USA

Third-year students at Liverpool John Moores University joined forces with their counterparts from Auburn University, Alabama, to take first prize in the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Student Competition in the USA.

Students on LJMU's leading programme - Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, and Architectural Technology - rivalled US students in the Design Build Track challenge - to plan the design, preconstruction, and construction services for a homeless centre in the Dallas, Texas.

Demonstrating exceptional skill and innovation, Team White, under the guidance of Dr Alan Bugg and Dr Onur Dursun, secured first place, while Team Grey, coached by Jonathan Tucker and Dr Onur Dursun, achieved third place.

Dr Dursun, programme leader for Quantity Surveying, said: "The LJMU teams showed professionalism and excellence throughout what was a rigorous 16-hour bid submission process and panel presentations. Their outstanding performance highlights the superior education and training provided by School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment at LJMU."

The ASC acts as the leading organisation for construction educators and industry professionals, bringing together prominent institutions from the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Looking ahead, the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment at LJMU is eager to strengthen its collaboration with Auburn University through initiatives such as staff and student exchanges, joint research projects, and the sharing of best practices.
