Petra Collins joined the Public Health Institute (PHI) in 2007 as a Database Assistant for the Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) on the Criminal Justice Team. In 2009, she became a Research Assistant, and her main role was to provide data monitoring and research on DIP across Merseyside, and to liaise closely with Merseyside Police, local Commissioners and Drug and Alcohol Teams involved with DIP in the region. Following a restructure within PHI in 2013, she became part of the Public Health Intelligence Unit, (previously named Intelligence and Surveillance Monitoring Team) whilst continuing her work on DIP. In 2014, she spent five months seconded to PHE as a part-time Research Analyst, working on the North West branch of the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) Team. Towards the end of 2018, her role changed to Data Analyst following another restructure within the team. Petra also engages with other data monitoring and research within the Intelligence and Surveillance Monitoring Team, as well as across the Institute. This has included working with the Trauma and Injury Intelligence Group (TIIG), Drug Related Death data gathering from Liverpool’s Coroner’s Office, and nightlife research.
