Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Welcome to the Centre for Excellence in Leadership and Professional Learning
Established as one of 74 HEFCE-funded Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, LJMU’s Centre for Excellence in Leadership and Professional Learning addresses the themes of employability, leadership and enterprise within the curriculum. With a subject focus on sport, exercise, dance and physical activity it spans programmes in two faculties, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education, Community and Leisure. In common with much of LJMU, both discipline areas share excellent reputations for work-based and work-related learning and are known for bold, distinctive and innovative curriculum design and delivery. Our CETL is co-ordinated as a university-wide learning and teaching initiative by the University’s Learning Development Unit, through which it is working to support the implementation of new strategic goals for the development of graduate skills and work-related learning within the curriculum of LJMU programmes. As such, it is a large and complex initiative with an ambitious remit.
Leading learners, learning to lead...
The overarching aim of our Centre for Excellence is to develop existing innovative approaches to work-related learning within the subject areas of sport, exercise, dance and physical activity in order to enhance students’ employability, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. In developing curriculum approaches that promote good learning for good employability, the CETL’s primary aim is to enable students to become ‘leading learners’ who are also ‘learning to lead.’
