Jim Clarke

MSc Computing & Information Systems
From the United Kingdom

" Hi, I'm Jim Clarke, a fulltime mature student from the LJMU 2002/3 MSc intake, who enrolled on the Computing & Information Systems  MSc to widen my skill set further into IT, from my previous background in telecommunications product design.

The decision to study for a MSc was taken after obtaining professional careers advice, and I selected the LJMU MSc because of the more practical bias, and hence industry relevance to skills taught on the course.

In addition to the five core modules, there are three electives on the CIS program from a wide, relevant and interesting subject list. In fact the choice is so good you may find yourself in the same difficultly as I in narrowing your choice. I found my experience at LJMU both challenging and enjoyable. I found all my course lecturers to be knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, and the CMS school and library computer facilities to be excellent. I particularly enjoyed the MSc project dissertation (a third of the course) which was an opportunity to explore a particular field of interest to yourself - network QoS support for distributed multimedia applications in my case. I have achieved my personnel objectives from the course, and taken with me an excellent springboard to complete my change in career direction, and of course not forgetting the new friends I have made during the course."
