Continuing Professional Development

At LJMU, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes enable employees to develop and enhance their vocational and professional skills. Our CPD programmes are designed to be flexible so that people can gain as much or as little credits towards qualification as they choose. They can take one module of a course to update a specific area of knowledge or a number of modules and work towards gaining a postgraduate diploma or Master's degree.

Our programme was designed to enable individuals, in a short time-block, to update their professional skills or to acquire new computing skills. It also provides an opportunity for individuals who, through their various professional commitments are unable to attend courses during business hours, to obtain personal or professional development. The courses are typically delivered one evening per week (6pm – 9pm) over a 12 week period (September to December or January to April).

Any module can be studied individually but a combination of any two modules will obtain the student a University accredited award entitled Certificate of Professional Development (Computing). By completing four modules, an Advanced Certificate of Professional Development (Computing) can be awarded.

Typically in part-time mode, it takes five years to complete an Honours degree (4 years for an Ordinary degree) or two years to complete a Masters degree.

While we offer all our degree programmes to part-time students, please note that only the BSc (Hons) Computing course is delivered entirely during the evening. All other degree courses require some daytime attendance.
