Fine Art

MA

Introduction

In collaboration with FACT, Liverpool Biennial and Tate Liverpool Biennial.

The Master of Fine Art programme is for artists interested in continuing and extending their practice within the context of urban culture. Taking the local specificities of Liverpool as a starting point, the course explores wider questions of art production, distribution and reflection in an age of globalisation. The programme will support, encourage and challenge students within a culture of rigorous debate, questioning and risk taking.

We aim to expose students to artists and protagonists on the international stage of current contemporary art practice, which will offer increased opportunities for networking and collaboration. They will be encouraged to re-evaluate their current arts language and explore and negotiate new situations and contexts for their practice. The emphasis will be placed on developing professional awareness and skills necessary to succeed within a highly competitive and professional field.

The course encourages artistic research and the development of new ways of working which challenge our assumptions around culture, identity and ecology. Taught in collaboration with significant international institutions such as Liverpool Biennial, Tate and FACT the MA offers unique access to specialist knowledge and experience of working in the public realm, museums and galleries and with technology.
