Introduction
Journalism is a popular career choice in an industry undergoing major change. The Journalism programme at LJMU is at the cutting edge of those changes aiming to provide training and education that will help professionals keep up to date throughout their working lives.
The programme develops your skills as a writer and researcher and then goes on to develop production skills in broadcast, print and online. Students specialise in their third year developing skills in their chosen area to professional level. The course has accreditation pending status with the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.
The Journalism programme is not merely a training course and about half the programme is about developing student's knowledge, understanding and critical and analytical abilities giving students the chance to develop a thorough understanding of the practice of journalism and its possible futures. The programme combines production practice with information technology, law and media theory.
We have close links with local media - Liverpool is one of the UK's major media cities - and many working journalists conduct workshops and master classes with students in our purpose-built newsrooms and studios.
Students are expected to complete a work placement in their third year. Journalism students are also expected to develop their own work and many publish their own work on the department's website,
www.JMU-journalism.org.uk, which you are invited to visit.
