Introduction
Graphic Arts is a diverse subject covering graphic design, illustration, animation, multimedia, interactive design, motion graphics, printmaking and photography and offers degree pathways in Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation and Interactive Design.
Due to the broad nature of the degree, modules are designed to be flexible, allowing students already certain about their future specialism to study alongside those who are still deciding or interested in more than one area. Craft-based skills flourish alongside the demands of emerging technology; underpinned by traditions of drawing, typography, image making and an inventive approach to new media. The course prides itself on producing independent thinkers who are capable of working both in-between and across disciplines.
The course has close links with the North West design industry and runs a number of placement schemes with local design studios and offers opportunities for students to work on 'live' projects or in collaboration with other creative organisations.
Graphic Arts is an ideal preparation for a career in the creative industries, whether it be as a freelance illustrator, a designer working in a large agency, or a creative with the ambition to start their own design studio.
Its graduates are creative forces in many of the region's leading design agencies. It continues to produce some of the country's most innovative and respected designers and illustrators, including BAFTA, D&AD, YCN and E4 Stings award winners.
