Introduction
Interior Design at the Liverpool School of Art and Design is a spatial art that manipulates and orchestrates forms in space for the enhancement of our lives. Our blend of aesthetic practice and technical study offers a stimulating creative experience whilst encouraging experimentation and diversity. We seek to emphasize imaginative concepts that are contextual integrated to arrive at a holistic understanding and sustainable practice.
During the course, you are assisted and encouraged to develop your creative visualization skills through sketching, orthographic drawing, model making and computer aided design. A continuous process of visualization and critical appraisal develops your independent thinking and your ability to communicate visually and verbally at professional level. The course has a vocational emphasis. Our objective is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to become a design professional and effect changes to our environment that will benefit future generations.
The course is taught through a backbone of projects that reflects contemporary practice. Currently these range from stage set design and computer simulation environments through to multistory entertainment and office spaces. These take place using local buildings both existing and newly proposed.
Wherever possible live projects are absorbed into the curriculum. This project backbone is supported by technical and professional practice studies on the one hand and by typological studies of architectural and interior design on the other.
