Introduction
Do you want to make a real difference to the world? Do you have a fascination for the way things work and a desire to see your ideas put into practice? If you are interested in creating the structures that support life’s basic needs for water, flood control, hospitals, recreation and transport, you should consider studying a programme in Civil Engineering.
Civil Engineers design, plan and manage civil and environmental projects from concept to realisation. The design process considers the structural problems and aesthetics as well as the environmental and economic impacts.
The course is aimed at providing the graduate with the knowledge and skills to make a successful entry into civil engineering practice. The programme of study focuses on the core subjects of structural analysis and design, hydraulics, geotechnics, materials, surveying and construction management. The HND Civil Engineering Studies qualification is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers. It is widely recognised by the professions and firms in civil engineering design
The HND Civil Engineering Studies programmes equip students with the knowledge and skills for further Higher Education study or a career in Civil Engineering. The programme equips graduates to enter into the industry at technician level and enter the Institution of Civil Engineers at incorporated engineer status. On successful completion of the programme graduates with appropriate grades can progress directly onto the 2nd year of the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree programme.
