Students should have or typically expect to obtain 180-260 points from A2 Levels, and a good standard of English. You may be asked to complete other tasks following application.

Is Journalism and Digital Cultures for you?

The programme is vocational and is designed to develop the student’s understanding and knowledge of the practice of journalism in the UK as well as developing intellectual skills of effective communication through media technologies, research skills and the ability to place the study of Journalism within the broader debates of global media.

Teaching methods include lectures, workshops, work simulations, tutorials, group and individual project work, research exercises, tasks aimed at the assessment of specific skills, eg IT skills, production skills, research skills, skills of application. Specialist IT resources and other studio-based resources play an important part in the delivery.

What will you get out of studying this course?

You will develop the skills of the journalist to identify matters of interest, research them, source them and synthesise information before presenting in a way that commands attention. These skills are in demand in commerce or the public sector.

What career opportunities are available?

Although you will learn the skills of the journalist, this programme is not intended to be a direct training for mainstream journalism in the UK. However, the skills of the journalist will fit you for a number of careers in the field of communication, commerce and public service including website management, content generation and development, information management, public relations, charity work, the civil service, education and commerce.
