Face to Face with Sport Science

Have you ever wondered why Usain Bolt can run so fast? Or why Chris Hoy is a multiple Olympic Gold Medalist?

Well the obvious answer is they have talent and personal drive to be the best. Without these two attributes it is very difficult to be among the world's best sport performers. However, there are other contributing factors to an athlete's ability to succeed and one of those is the support team that help the athlete optimally train, rest and recover from injury - they are collectively known as Sport Scientists.

To give you an insight to the work of Sport Science researchers and applied practitioners from the UK's most established Sport Science department, we invite you to come Face to Face with Sports Science. Interactive experiences from across the sports science disciplines of physiology, motor control, biomechanics, performance analysis and psychology will enhance knowledge by explaining how scientific research is implemented in applied practice.

Ultimately visitors will experience the sports science and research that underpins athletic performance, which include:

 - Training and recovery methods
- Assessment heart and lung function
- Nutrition and anti-doping issues
- Injury prevention
- Sport clothing and technology

Face to Face with Sports Science will provide you with the opportunity to meet sport scientists who have worked alongside some of Great Britain's elite athletes and contributed to Gold medals and world championship performances. So come and get involved see what some of the greatest athletes in the world go through to become world class.
