Requesting Information from the University
REQUESTING INFORMATION FROM THE UNIVERSITY
(Freedom of Information Act 2000)
Liverpool John Moores University is committed to promoting public understanding of its ethos, values and activities, and so far as is possible and permitted under law, it will provide members of the public with information held by the University.
The University has adopted the model publication scheme developed for the Higher Education sector and is therefore committed to publishing the information it describes. The publication scheme is available through this website.
Under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000, all individuals have rights in regard to obtaining information held by the University.
It may be that the information you are seeking is available on this website and in the publication scheme and so before submitting any request you are advised to check the University’s publication scheme and this website to see if this is the case. However, after completing a search and you cannot find what you are looking for, the information below is designed to help you request the information you want.
Request for information relating to yourself
The Data Protection Act 1998 allows you to ask the University for any information held about you as an individual. If you wish to make an enquiry about data that relates to yourself, then please contact the Data Protection Officer, whose details are available below.
Request for other information held by the University
The University already makes public large quantities of information through this website, but the Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides greater access in two ways:
• If you ask us, we must tell you if we hold certain information,
and, if so,
• With certain exemptions, we have to provide that information to you
If you wish to make an enquiry about information held by the University and which is not readily available, then please either write directly to the Freedom of Information Officer. Details of where to write to are given below.
When we receive your request we shall start a search for the information you need. If we cannot determine exactly what information you require, we shall contact you as soon as possible to clarify your request. If we already publish the information you require, we shall send you details of how and where to find that information.
In all other cases, the information you need will be located and provided to you, and preferably, in your preferred format. By law we must provide the information within 20 working days.
Please note, however, that some information may be exempt, and, should that be the case, we will provide what information we can and provide the reason(s) why the requested information has not been released.
Please also note that we may need to charge a fee to cover the costs of our search and for any copying and postage. Until a fee is received, the information you require will not be released to you. We will inform you in writing if we need to charge a fee and how much that will be.
