How to Check for Fines on your Library Account

Using the Library Catalogue, either online or from a dedicated terminal within the Learning Resource Centres (LRCs), you can check whether you have any outstanding fines and fees owing to Library and Student Support (L&SS).

  • Sign-in to the Library Catalogue and Access Your Library Account. You will then see the following page:

    The Library Account Details page

  • Click the Cash Transactions link:

  • The Cash Transactions page gives a summary of balances for each LRC (Sublibrary) and an overall total. Following this is a list of any unpaid transactions:

  • Further details of each unpaid cash transaction can be viewed by clicking the item title . For example:

    Highlighting the Item Title link

  • Example Details for Cash Transaction are shown below:

The Details for cash transactions page

  • Here is an explanation of the Description which details how a fine has been calculated:

    Description Element Explanation
Number of days an item is overdue
(if fine calculated per day - see below)
Number of hours an item is overdue
(if fine calculated per hour - see below)
How the fine is calculated, where:
    D = per day
C = per hour (for shorter duration loans)
Fine amount applied per day (or hour)

In this example, the item is overdue by 3 days, and the fine rate is 25p per day, so sum charge is 75p.

More information about fines and how to pay them is available in Fines Charged for Overdue Items.
