About the LJMU Research Archive

The Research Archive is part of LJMU Digital Collections. The Research Archive is an open access database recording the University’s research output. Where possible, the full text of materials such as journal articles, journal article preprints, conference papers and working papers is stored in the archive and fully accessible. There are also full descriptions and abstracts of items that cannot be made available for copyright or technical reasons.

What is the Research Archive?

The LJMU Research Archive is an open access digital collection of research created by LJMU researchers. Many universities now make their research outputs available in this way. The Research Archive provides secure, permanent storage of academic research output, making it visible and available to the academic community and anyone who is interested in research findings worldwide.

The Research Archive offers an alternative, complementary method of making research available. It is not self-publishing nor a way of by-passing peer-review and publication in refereed journals. The intention is to provide an efficient method of bringing together the University’s research output, which would otherwise be scattered throughout a large number of journals, books and conference proceedings, or unavailable except from the author.

It is intended that the Research Archive will form the central record of LJMU research output, and will support the preparation of the University’s RAE submission.

About

The Research Archive is running on Digitool 3 using Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The system is harvestable through the Open Archives Initiative’s Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).
