Why do I need to set LJMU as my institution?
This makes accessing the majority of resources simpler, by allowing you to use your LJMU username and password to log in. It sets a cookie on you PC. You need to do this once on campus, so it sits on you profile and again on every PC you want to use off-campus.
I can't access the username and password page from off-campus?
You need to type 'users\' followed by your LJMU username, e.g. users\leajblogg and your password in the correct boxes when prompted.
How do I access databases from off-campus?
Some databases can only be accessed on-campus, they will have the blue icon (shown right) by them. The majority can be used off-campus. Look out for the special links for some databases. If there is no off-campus link you can access the database from the normal link. Just ensure you have set LJMU as your instituion and follow any on screen instructions for logging on.
How do I access journals from off-campus?
The key things to watch out for when accessing journals off-campus are the additional instructions in the FetchIt window. Remembering of course to set LJMU as your Institution first. Any journals that can't be accessed off-campus will have "on-campus only" in the FetchIt window.
How do I access LJMU Athens resources in the NHS?
Working in the NHS or other organisation where setting the cookie would inconvenience other staff there is an alternative method for logging into LJMUs electronic resources with your LJMU username and password:
- If you have already set LJMU as your institution you will need to delete the cookie on your PC to remove it.
- Go to the My Athens web site
- Don't input anything in the Username/Password boxes. Instead click on the link for Alternative login
- Use the search box to search for Liverpool John Moores University
- When the list of organisations appears, click on Liverpool John Moores University
- On the next web page (headed Go to the Liverpool John Moores University login page), click on the tick to the left of Remember this organisation on this computer to remove it.
- Now click on Go
- Input your LJMU username and password in the appropriate boxes on the AthensDA Authentication page and click on the login button.
- Click on Resources to see a list and select the service you want
- When you have finished remember to log out by closing the browser window to prevent unauthorised access to LJMU resources.
Can I use Google Scholar to link to LJMU content?
Yes to get the best of Google Scholar you need to set your preferences:
- Click on
(top right of screen) - Select Scholar Preferences
- In the Library Links box type Liverpool
- Tick the box next to Liverpool John Moores University - Online via LJMU
- Click Save Preferences
Now when you search Google Scholar if LJMU has access to the resource you will see the words Online via LJMU. By clicking on Online via LJMU the FetchIt box will appear detailing where you can get access.
