  • The school of Natural Science and Psychology

    which was formally established in 2008, is one of four academic departments within the Faculty of Science, one of six Faculties in the University. The other academic departments in the Faculty are the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, and the Astrophysics Research Institute.   • Research

    is a key strategic priority for the School, with particular strengths in the areas of anthropology, biological sciences, developmental and cognitive psychology, health psychology and neuroscience. The internationally recognised Research Centre for Evolutionary Anthropology and Palaeoecology is also based in the School. In a recent Research Assessment Exercise, 32 staff from the School of Natural Sciences and Psychology were entered with five Units of Assessment – Allied Health Professions and Studies, Nursing, Education, Biological Sciences and Anthropology. Over 75% of research submitted was deemed to be of international quality with ‘world leading’ research identified in anthropology, allied health professions and nursing.   • In terms of resources and facilities

    this is a particularly exciting time for the School. In 2010, the psychology part of the School moved into the new £26 million Tom Reilly Building with the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. New state of the art laboratories, together with staff accommodation and student teaching space have provided the School with world class facilities. This has enabled the School to consolidate all of its teaching and research in one site at Byrom Street.

  • Staff

    The School of Natural Sciences and Psychology currently has 59 academic staff members, fourteen dedicated, full-time technicians, and ten administrative staff.   • Courses

    +

    The School offers a range of programmes at undergraduate level in the areas of biological sciences and psychology, including a Foundation in Natural Sciences. All of the psychology programmes provide students with the opportunity of recognition by the British Psychological Society. Two MSc programmes provide accredited postgraduate training and professional development in occupational psychology and health psychology. There are currently over 30 research students in the School.
