What is the Print Strategy?
- LJMU have recognised that there is an opportunity to take an organisation wide, strategic approach to all its photocopying and printing requirements, both for students and staff with an aim to reduce printed volume and reduce spend.
Who is the person responsible for the machine, putting in paper, reporting faults?
- All users are responsible for reporting faults ia the CIS Helpdesk and putting paper into the machine. IKON will respond to the calls and are responsible for the equipment.
How do I order consumables?

Do I get a user guide?
- User Guides are placed on each machine. If you need assistance operating the machine or require general training please complete the web form at www.ljmu.ac.uk/ikon or call the CIS Helpdesk on ext 5555
What happens to current equipment?
- The current legacy equipment will either be returned to the original provider, retained in its current location, fleet managed by IKON or disposed of using the ISO14001 regulations.
Is it recycled? How?
- All equipment removed from site by IKON is recycled in accordance with ISO14001.
What type of paper should I buy?
- The Print Room will use paper with recycled content as the norm. From 2008/9 it is proposed that the paper for the fleet has a recycled content.
Why do I have to do double side printing/copying?
- The PRINT infrastructure for staff will operate with default setting of double sided and black and white as agreed by SMG in order to meet the aims of the PRINT Strategy.
When can I scan?
- Scanning is enabled for staff on request on each IKON MFD. Please contact the CIS Helpdesk for further assistance on 5555 or helpdesk@ljmu.ac.uk
- Student access to scanning on MFDs is coming later in 2009. Please note that A4 scanners are avaialbale for student use in the LRC's.
What about confidentiality?
- All devices offer a secure printing facility giving an enhanced level of confidentiality.
Is training available?

Our business needs have changed. What do we do?
- Contact the CIS Helpdek . IKON will visit and re-survey the area. If changes are recommended by IKON they will go via the PRINT Strategy Operational Group for approval and action.
How do I replace the toner?

I can’t print to the new device

What do I do if there is a paper jam?
- If you have been shown how to clear a paper jam then please follow the instructions on the machine display panel. If you are not sure or cannot remove the jam, please complete the web form at www.ljmu.ac.uk/ikon or call the CIS Helpdesk on ext 5555
What is Equitrac?
- Equitrac is a software package that allows LJMU to track activity volumes and charge usage to the appropriate cost centre.
How do I use the card reader?
- Instructions sheets are availbale on all the MFDs. Further training is available if required.
