Scientific Approaches to Consciousness and Transpersonal Psychology
Our research is characterised by breadth and integration - the two guiding principles of Consciousness and Transpersonal Psychology at LJMU. We pursue a wide range of research topics that are related to understanding consciousness and the mind as well as its various forms of transformation.
Research topics include:
-
psychological and physiological effects of meditation
-
personal transformation and subjective well-being
-
transforming effects of self-expressive art
-
theories of religious conversion
In addition, we also scrutinise our own teaching practice and investigate issues concerning Learning, Teaching and Assessment, especially in relation to our award-winning MSc online programme. In pursuit of these questions we employ a wide range of quantitative as well as qualitative methods, ranging from collecting and interpreting (neuro-) physiological data to the qualitative analysis of focus-group sessions and interviews.
