Liverpool Logistics Offshore and Marine Research Institute (LOOM) is a leading research unit in marine, offshore and transport studies. LOOM's research interests include: 3D-simulation of logistics movement, evolutionary algorithms and optimisation, formal Ship safety assessment, human and organisational error studies and logistics supply chain studies.
LOOM is accepting PhD applicants who wish to carry out research into the design and operation of large engineering systems, as well as research on operational research, including simulation, optimisation and evolutionary computation. The School of Engineering facilities include: software, hardware and engineering laboratories.

The Liverpool Logistics, Offshore and Marine Research Institute (LOOM) specialises in marine, offshore and transport sectors. The research projects conducted by LOOM have helped to improve the efficiency of port and terminal operations in Europe and the Far East.
Working in partnership with Mersey Maritime, The Maritime Knowledge Hub helps to meet the training needs of the maritime industry, whether that is through our facilities or through our specialist training courses.
Each scholarship funding is for three years of a full-time PhD degree programme, and includes tuition fees, a tax-free maintenance stipend of around £18,622 per annum (rising in line with URKI rates) and additional research costs of up to £1,600 per year.
