Through our Sports Scholarships, we will give our sports stars unparalleled support as they study, with access to the very latest scientific research and guidance. Providing we can surround them with an athlete-centred, well structured and most significantly, a well-funded scholarship programme, we can raise their game.

Now we invite you to be part of that success story as LJMU Sport Scholars are destined to become the champions of the future.

Unfortunately, we receive more applications from talented and enthusiastic athletes keen to join the success of the Sport Scholarship Scheme than we have available places. We simply don’t have the resources to offer this exciting opportunity to more sportsmen and women.  

LJMU is seeking local companies, charitable trusts, individuals and members of our alumni community with a vested interest in achievement at the highest sporting level to support the next generation of sporting heroes.

LJMU’s cohort of Sports Scholars compete on the premier sporting stages and sponsors will be making a real contribution to LJMU’s elite athletes’ development.

Each Sports Scholarship Sponsor can offer their support to an individual student of their choice, the scheme as a whole or a specific sporting area, to help with sporting expenses such as travel, medical provision, coaching and specialist training costs.  Alternatively there is the invitation to assume the prestigious position of becoming LJMU Sports scholarship’s headline sponsor which is an opportunity to be represented in international arenas, collaborate with an enterprising University and access vibrant sporting and student populations who could put your organisation in pole position. 

Current Sponsors

Already, key organisations have pledged their support for the scheme.

• The commitment from O’Neills Sportswear has been instrumental in getting us to where we are today. As keen supporters of the scheme from the very beginning, they make an annual gift of £12,000 towards the programme. In addition to this, they generously provide the scholars with £3,600 worth of kit every year and a further £3,000 of kit for LJMU staff in the Sports Science department.  
• Liverpool City Council have extended their commitment to sporting excellence by ensuring sports scholars can fulfil their demanding training schedules, by offering free year-round access to Lifestyles fitness suites and leisure facilities located across the city.
• LJMU’s partnership with travel operator Merseytravel is an invaluable scheme feature, providing Sports Scholars with free travel helping our athletes to access Merseyside’s leading competition and training facilities.

We need to build on this wonderful support to ensure the scheme continues its success and is in a position to grow in response to the demand.  LJMU is presenting a unique opportunity for sponsors to share in the success of Merseyside based elite athletes as they strive to make their mark in National, European, World and Olympic competition.
