Completing this BEng (Hons) degree will help you secure the technical and manufacturing expertise required to practice manufacturing systems engineering and function in the role of Chartered Engineer within these specific industries.
The Institution of Engineering and Technology accreditation means your degree is a stepping stone towards registration as a Chartered Engineer.
At Level 4 (first year), you will be awarded advanced standing (AS) if you enter with either a relevant HNC or HND qualification at the required grade. An HNC qualification will give you partial exemption (AS) at level 4. If you are qualified to HND level then you will be awarded advanced standing for the whole of level 4 and you will gain entry directly to level 5. For students gaining direct entry to level 5 the programme is three years in duration.
If you have demonstrated consistently strong performance by the end of Level 5, you may be offered the opportunity to transfer to the MEng programme, which confers CEng status.
Gaining professional status will be of considerable benefit to you in your future career, especially if you join a multinational company and/or need to have your qualification recognised overseas.

Assessment and feedback
Assessment varies depending on the modules you choose, usually a combination of exams and coursework.
Your knowledge and understanding will be assessed via a combination of examinations and coursework. However, certain subjects may be assessed by other methods, such as through a portfolio of work, for example. In addition, you will be expected to complete a final year project.
Achievement of the formal qualifications is part of a broader audit-based end-point employer endorsement with a rigorous interview/viva, which incorporates a detailed occupational development record and portfolio of evidence.

We are looking for students who are keen to learn new skills and develop those they already possess. As well as the obvious manufacturing roles, our graduates are employed in diverse roles, ranging from sales and marketing to senior positions in technical, managerial and commercial leadership. Manufacturing Systems Engineering is widely recognised by employers as a degree meeting these requirements. This means you could also be employed by consultancies, government bodies and public utilities.
