Nia Programme

Career development programme for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff

Liverpool John Moores University launched The ‘Nia’ Programme – to help progress careers for our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff.

Adopting the Swahili name ‘Nia,’ meaning ‘purpose’, the programme was delivered by The King’s Fund to help create an inspiring and motivating career vision for colleagues. Staff registered on the virtual three-day programme received individual 1:1 personal coaching sessions.

By the end of this personal development programme professional services and academic staff attendees among other things:

  • understood the skills and qualities that aren’t taught in school – influence and the power of personal impact that make you stand out in a crowded marketplace
  • learned why in-house ‘Brand You’ matters more than ever in accelerating and progressing your future career
  • understood how to successfully access and leverage the hidden job market through intentional networking and contacts
  • developed a clear understanding of the difference between career achievement and career success
