The aim of the session is to support experienced supervisors by helping them to update or refresh their knowledge and skills. The workshop will give supervisors an overview of regulatory and system changes in our research degree provision. The session also aims to strengthen the capabilities of supervisors to detect and solve problems, promote researcher resilience and motivate doctoral candidates.
The workshop will:
1. Provide an opportunity to share and reflect on experiences of supervision, both successful and unsuccessful;
2. Encourage participants to evaluate their research supervision practices in the context of current scholarship and debate about doctoral education;
3. Share expertise and identify measures for creating a productive and supportive supervisory practice within their areas.
Who might attend?
The workshop is for anyone who wants to know about changes to regulations, to better understand how to support timely PhD completions, or to motivate and support doctoral researchers in a climate of shifting expectations and increasing litigation.
