"Health village" prepares students for real-world environments
We've invested £1.6 million in developing professional-standard clinical practice suites and enhanced teaching spaces.
It is essential that our future nursing and allied health professionals have access to the very best facilities while they are training.
Home environment room
A typical flat is recreated with a bed, sofa and other furniture – different scenarios can be played out to prepare students for real world situations.
The ambulance is an exact copy of the inside of the Mercedes ambulances used in the North West of England. Road noise sound effects make it all the more real. CCTV cameras and digital video records various scenarios which can be analysed upon review.
These suites mimic a hospital environment as closely as possible. There are five suites available to practise in, including the specialised Manual Handling suite and Midwifery suite which features the state-of-the-art birthing simulator.
Elanor Coulter Suite and counselling rooms
Used for role playing sessions and for simulating family and mental health scenarios. Includes a separate control room with a one way mirror for observation and several CCTV cameras for the purposes of analysis and review.
At LJMU our practice suites and teaching spaces have benefited from recent investment to ensure students are provided with a learning environment that allows them to develop and practices skills using the latest equipment. We’ve created a “health village” that emulates a patient’s journey from a home environment to the ambulance setting then into A&E and through to rehabilitation.
Since no two patients are the same, neither are our virtual patients. We have a whole family of simulation mannequins that speak, breathe and show life signs. Students can practise on a range of lifelike patients of different ages, shapes and sizes and with different ailments and medical conditions.
These simulated environments are as close to real-world as possible, preparing students for the rigours and realism of actual practice.
LJMU offers the most up-to-date training facilities that truly reflect the reality of working on the frontline of an ambulance service. The ambulance suite is identical to the ones we work on when on placement which helps you to know where certain euipment is before you are on placement. It really provides a realistic, modern area in which we can practise the much needed skills of a paramedic.
