Workboat courses at LJMU Maritime Centre:

Master Workboats

Duration: Ten days 

Prerequisites: Appropriate seatime to obtain NOE from MCA based on any of the following qualifications:

  • OOW (Yachts) <3000gt
  • Master (Yachts) <3000gt
  • Master (Code Vessels) <200gt
  • OOW Unlimited
  • Fishing Class 1 (UK)

Accreditation/Approvals: MCA under MGN 496

Overview: This course is designed to prepare candidates for their MASTER WORKBOATS (LESS THAN 500GT) examination. Ideally, this course should be attended by those who have passed their written modules as well as completed all the short courses required for the issuance of Master Workboat < 500gt CoC.

Workboat Stability

Duration: One day

Prerequisites: None

Accreditation/Approvals: MCA under Workboat Code

Overview: This course provides the candidates with an understanding of stability issues for vessels that fall within the Workboat Code i.e. workboats, pilot boats and small commercial vessels. The Workboat Code states that ‘the master of any workboat which is required to be provided with a ‘Stability Information Booklet’ should have attended an approved Stability Course for Workboats.
