School of Justice Studies hosts students from Singapore University of Social Sciences

At the beginning of August, the School of Justice Studies hosted 27 students from Singapore University of Social Sciences for a two-week summer school.

Students attending the summer school are employed within the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs in a variety of roles including policing, prison service, immigration, fire, civil defence force, and the central narcotics bureau.

During the summer school, students were exposed to contemporary challenges affecting policing, the probation service and the criminal justice system across England and Wales and examined some of the strategies used to tackle problems affecting our communities.

A series of cultural events and exercises helped broaden understanding not only of policing and the criminal justice system but also the culture in the city of Liverpool.

Comparing their own experiences, the summer school culminated in students presenting their reflections on contrasting approaches to policing and the criminal justice system between Merseyside, England and Wales, and Singapore.

This is a developing relationship between Liverpool John Moores University and Singapore University of Social Sciences with a commitment to repeat the summer school in 2025 and develop exchange opportunities for students from both institutions.
