Fiona has worked in academic teaching posts across a number of UK and international higher education establishments within both creative and business schools for over 10 years. Now based in The School of Art and Design at Liverpool John Moores University, Fiona is also a director at Baltic Creative CIC a social enterprise established in Liverpool in 2009 to support the development and growth of the Creative and Digital industries.
Fiona is an external examiner and educational consultant who is regularly invited as an external advisor on interview panels, audits and validations of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Qualified and experienced in the design and development of new curricula, quality enhancement and management of education in the creative sector.
With a fashion industry background spanning over 15 years Fiona’s research area is in fashion and footwear marketing. This experience has led to a forthcoming co-authored text book published by Bloomsbury in 2017, Marketing Fashion Footwear: The business of shoes.
Previous pedagogical research has looked at fashion start-ups and the role that universities play in the education of future entrepreneurs. It also considers how the fashion industry embeds itself into the emergence and regeneration of cities and creative quarters. More recently Fiona has enrolled on a DBA and will explore social entrepreneurship and innovative business models within the field of fashion and footwear with a particular focus on Liverpool and its place in the emerging creative and digital field. Her research aims to explore how we build creative and sustainable communities in post-industrial city environments. Exploring the precedents for similar schemes both nationally and internationally and to consider the typical lifecycles of creative communities. Key issues such as creating employment, new business environments and higher GVA for Liverpool could be addressed.
