Other Professional Activity:

Describe the Professional Activities: Freelance Accessories Designer: I have substantial and long-standing experience working within the high street sports fashion industry as an accessories designer. I work very closely with fashion designers developing concepts and building ranges for clients such as Nike, Reebok, Umbro, Weird Fish and Quicksilver and outdoor brands such as Northface, Lowe Alpine and Regatta Outdoors. I have recently designed licensed products for the MOD, that involved not only creating a full range of textile products but also the brand creation and development. I have worked in this industry as a full time member of staff and as a consultant designer. As a product designer I have been able to add my skills and knowledge within the fashion industry, to enhance the output. My initial trend and market research represents a large part of my work. This includes global, social and market trends. The research is analysed and presented in very focussed trend boards, which inform my clients and acknowledge that I am working within the client remit. They also enable me to focus on my own design development and direction. I present concepts, products, market analysis, and trend information to clients both visually and verbally. The work includes producing technical drawings for manufacturing. I Negotiate with Far East suppliers on time-lines, costing and quality. I work on sourcing factories materials and processes I communicate by e-mail, phone and by visiting the factories in Asia, Europe and the UK. I worked closely in teams and provided fast track products from concept to production, and react to emerging global trends. I manage the process of developing product ranges through to production. Making sure samples came in on time - to budget and that the quality is of a good standard. To problem solve along the process. My computer work consists of illustrating products and research findings for presentation to the client, technical drawings and administration as well as product brochures. I use Adobe CS for this. I have worked in the factory sample rooms and have first hand experience of pattern cutting and construction of 3D shapes and prototypes. I have a working knowledge of manufacturing processes. I have in depth knowledge of materials and process related to this industry. I have excellent illustrative and drawing capabilities from rough sketches to finished computer illustrations. I have developed this illustrative work extensively in explaining products/materials in brand brochures.
